Napoleon Cat, A Sweet Short-legged Kitten

Napoleon cat, a sweet short-legged kitten

It has a sweet expression, a rounded muzzle that looks like that of a stuffed animal, short legs and a fur similar to the Persian. These are some of the characteristics of the domestic feline that we will talk about in this article, the  Napoleon cat.

He loves living with his family, is constantly looking for cuddles and is absolutely docile and affectionate with everyone. If you have a passion for cats and are always curious about new varieties and breeds, do not miss this beautiful and friendly  Napoleon cat .

Napoleon Cat: a little Persian, a little Munchkin

The creator of these kittens, Joe Smith, seems to have an obsession with short legs. He had previously been a Basset hound breeder. But when he saw a picture of Munchkin in the newspaper in 1995, he realized that he could apply his knowledge to the universe of domestic cats as well.

He soon discovered that, unlike dogs, the short-legged gene is not as dominant in cats. He set to work to design a specimen that met his expectations.

The Napoleon cat, therefore, was born as a  result of the combination of the Persian and Munchkin breeds. He inherited the characteristics of the first and the tiny extremities from the second. The problem is that Smith insisted on creating these “tailor-made cats,” without bothering to deliberately reproduce negative conditions related to achondroplasia.

Fortunately, however, nature always prevails and not all examples of Napoleon cats are affected by dwarfism. Of course, they have unique characteristics, but they can also be distinguished by having often different colors and fur designs.

Physical characteristics of the Napoleon cat

In addition to being short, it’s worth remembering that this kitten’s hind legs are longer than the front ones. Additionally, these four extremities are muscular and have rounded, medium-sized claws.

Other characteristics of the Napoleon cat are:

  • Size: medium.
  • Weight: 4-5 kilos for males, 2-3 for females.
  • Body: rounded, muscular and strong.
  • Neck: short and solid.
  • Head: round, of medium width, with a short muzzle and strong chin.
  • Eyes: large and round.
  • Nose: short and wide.
  • Ears: small, with a broad base and rounded tips.
  • Tail: proportional in size to the body and raised when the cat is in motion (resembles that of a squirrel).
  • Hair: dense, soft, silky and shiny. It can be short or long.

An affectionate and balanced kitten

Loving, sociable and relaxed, the Napoleon cat adapts to life at home, even in small apartments. In addition, it is ideal for living with small children, as it is very docile, patient, balanced and tolerant.

However, even if it gets along very well with other pets, it is not recommended to adopt it if you have aggressive or jealous dogs. Its small paws would not allow it to defend itself or to be respected.

Active and playful, it is a curious animal, loves cuddles and spends many hours in the company of human beings. It should be noted that it is not a good idea to leave him alone for too long. If you work outside the home and are often absent, it is best to choose another cat breed.

Caring for a Napoleon cat

For short-haired examples of the Napoleon cat, a weekly brushing will be more than enough to keep the fur clean and healthy. This routine should be repeated 2-3 times a week for long-haired dogs.

As for the diet, always give him high quality feed, preferably with more calcium to strengthen the bones. Thus, its short legs will have no problem supporting the body of the animal which, over time, will surely gain weight.

Also, like any kitten, you will need to schedule periodic visits to the vet, vaccinate and deworm as directed by the doctor. It is also important to always check the health of the legs, making sure that the joints have no problems.
